Convenience, but at much too great of a cost

Review

The process was decently easy, I packed my cards with great care and unsleeved all but two or three cards of the around 2,000 I sent per the demands of the instructions on CC. I scanned all my cards and imported the list of correct printings and conditions to multiple apps/websites and verified many of the conditions with my two LGS’s that I frequent. The sent value from what I scanned was about $3600, after the report card conduit sent me after having all my cards they offered me around $1,799 saying that the condition of most of them were moderately played even though I hadn’t played at all with over 90% of the cards and packaged them as directed by CC. Nearly all the cards I sent had been sleeved or in a binder their entire lives and were in near mint, impeccable condition. I don’t smoke and am an adult who greatly cares for his cards. Most cards I pull from packs I use gloves and immediately sleeve.
I desperately needed the money to help fund my wedding, but I felt absolutely ripped off by card conduit and disrespected from their evaluations of my cards. If I had more time I know I could’ve made significantly more money selling them individually and on my own, rather than what I received from CC. I deeply regret selling my cards to CC, it felt like a deal to the devil, but I needed the money more than the cards that of most were sitting on a shelf in my closet in sorted boxes. It took CC what felt like forever to get to my order and start sorting my cards, but maybe my impatience was because I was selling out of desperation. I have told all of my friends who have since sold many cards to avoid CC at all costs if possible and that it absolutely 100% was not worth it. They have sold collections of similar value with more work from themselves via Mana Pool but got significantly more back. As I titled my piece, convenience, but at too great of a cost.

We do our best to ensure expectations are set ahead of time, including timing and value expectations. We want every customer to exit each transaction feeling like the service was worthwhile, and that the expectations they had coming in were met or exceeded.

This shipment contained just under 1400 cards (not the 2000 cited in the review). The maximum possible payout if everything had been near mint was approximately $2,250 before our fees. The TCGLow value of the cards if everything was near mint was about $3,115 (not the $3600 cited in this review). Our typical fees for this transaction type (Standard) is 10% + $0.03 per card - or roughly $267 if everything was near mint.

The shipment was completed within 7 business days of the package's receipt - which is in line with our stated timeline for Standard shipments. We assessed this shipment before our fees at $1,894. Rather than the typical fee amount, we upgraded this shipment to just 5% fees, resulting in a savings of about $136. Selling cards on your own via a marketplace will typically result in a better payout than using our service, though the time and effort to sell 1400 cards would be significant. There are also substantial costs associated with selling via marketplaces, especially when the average card value is on the lower side of things ($2.25 average card value at TCGLow, in this case). To sell 1400 cards, you might expect to ship 100-300 packages over a period of several weeks/months. The cost of shipping, marketplace fees, materials/supplies, and lost packages/disputes would be significant - not to mention the time/labor to package and mail those cards.

We do allow customers to review their results on all shipments before they are finalized. This customer specifically stated they did not want any cards returned due to needing the money urgently. We are willing to return entire shipments to customers at our own expense, and this can be an important option when we cannot get on the same page on the evaluation of the cards. The customer is correct that selling the cards individually on their own would have resulted in a better financial result, but the cost to sell a collection like this should always be factored into whether our service is worthwhile. We did our best to offer the best value for this mix of cards, including a reduction in our fees, and feel that the result here was exceptional verses other selling options.
We launched our reviews feature in January 2021, and invited every previous customer to leave a review. Reviewers have the option to omit their payout/fee amounts and shipment highlights page. We publish all reviews, unedited, but may post a response in certain cases. We may need to remove a review if it's offensive (profanity, etc).
